How Deep Do Your Roots Go?
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of the glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, and that you, being rooted and grounded in love….Ephesians 3:14-17
How deep do your ‘Roots’ go? Let’s take a look at a picture of nature. What is the functioning purpose of a root? A root is an extension that comes off of plants, trees etc. for the purpose of supplying needed water and nutrients for that living thing to grow and mature into the purpose for which God created it to be. If there is no root there is no life.
Once Roots are planted they begin to grow and develop in depth and width becoming stronger as they get bigger. The bigger they get the deeper they go into the soil where there lies much needed water and nutrients just waiting to supply the food they need for survival.
Ephesians 3:17-19 says, So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love , may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth , and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
We all have roots that are going somewhere. The question is, where are yours going and are they established and grounded in Christ? If they aren’t, then we need to question where our life is heading and how fruitful it really is.
We have God’s promise that if our life is rooted in Him, we will continue to grow in breadth, length, height and depth and know the love of Christ in all His fullness. I don’t know about you but I want my roots to go deeper and grow stronger in the person of Jesus Christ, how about you?
This is our prayer Lord, “We will plant ourselves in you trusting that you will establish us in firm rich soil so that we may grow deep in you. Strengthen our roots Lord and cause them to expand in depth and width that we may be nourished and fed by you day and night. Cause us to grow in Godly character and wisdom for your sake and we thank you knowing that you fulfill all your promises.”
