For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. I Corinthians 15:9-10
Good morning everyone on this snowy day. Thank you for your comments and replies, they are so appreciated. I hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful. “I am who I am”! This is Paul talking in this passage as he felt like the least of all the apostles and didn’t deserve to be called an apostle. I don’t know about you but I can sure identify with Paul as he did not think he deserved to be called an apostle. Most of us are not apostles but many of us can identify with feeling like the least of those who would not deserve being saved, let alone being used by God through a specific plan designed just for me and you. Amazing!
I don’t believe for a second that Paul was the least deserving, but we can identify with his life can’t we as he had no regard for God, as a matter of fact, he made it his goal to persecute the church and God’s people. We have all had things in our life that we have done that we regret, mistakes we have made, not to mention a total lack of wanting anything to do with God.
God saved Paul so that Paul could serve God. God saves us so we can serve God. God will do great things through those whom He saves. Paul came to know Jesus differently than the other apostles and each one of us comes to Jesus in a specific way because we are who we are. I am not like the person next door and I will not see things just the same way as they do, because there is a unique way that each of us is made (in the image of God) and God knows just what it will take to get our attention.
God loves us and takes us just the way we are, but he loves us too much to let us stay just the way we are. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us Romans 5:8. God want to make us WHAT he wants us to be. I remember the day when I would defend the statement “I Am Who I Am” and didn’t want to change. Now, I can say, but by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. Verse 10
