Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Luke 6:38
Good Morning Everyone, thank you for your comments I so appreciate it and love hearing from you. In light of the season we are in (Christmas), we are going to discuss this Scripture in Luke 6:38. We all enjoy giving especially at Christmas don’t we and we all like receiving as well. Of course we do! I think we can all agree that today Christmas is more commercial than Spiritual and it is easy to lose sight of the true meaning of giving and receiving which is what our verse is all about. Let’s break it down…
Some of us are better at giving than receiving and others are better at receiving than giving. So let’s look at this a little deeper. Do you think there is a connection between courage and money? There sure it! The question to ponder is “do we give because we have to or think we have to or because we want to”? C. S. Lewis says about giving Quote…I do not believe one can settle how much we ought to give. I am afraid the only safe rule is to give more than we can spare.
In the latter part of our verse it says…”For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you”. Huh! With the measure you use it! That really got my attention. So if I give a little I will get back a little, or if I give more I will receive more? This is what it is saying, now what God give’s back may be monetarily or it may in some other way, but the point is that God will give it back, a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over will be poured into our laps.
So letting go is having faith to believe what God says. Our text tells us to…give, and it will be given to you…We rob ourselves of present joy and future reward by holding on to what we have. Simply put, giving brings more joy than hanging onto what we have. When we worry about how much we have or how to get more, it occupies our mind. And the more we have, the more it occupies us.
I think God’s principle can simply be stated like this…What you keep, you lose…What you give, you keep. God gives back more that we are able to give out. For most of us it is easier to give things rather than money, we tend to want to hold onto money. I know that from a personal standpoint. It is easy to fall into the trap of keeping my eyes on what I have and how long it is going to last instead of trusting God for the increase and provision. I know I am not alone in this!!
So, why do we tend to hang on and not let go? There are many reasons, for some, it may be pride, for others it may power or prestige, or the desire to control, for others it may be insecurity and fear. There is no doubt that we hang onto more than we need because we are worried God will fail us. Let us all strive to walk in faith…and remember that our dependence is not in what we earn. So let us give freely because God has freely given to us.
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE
