Hi Everyone, good to be with you on a snowy day...thank you for joining me and I hope you are blessed with these blogs. Let me hear from you I always enjoy that. Today we will be discussing the topic of "Pleasing Man Or God? This is a challenge for all of us....
1 Thessalonians 2:3-7 says, For the appeal we make does not spring from error or impure motives, nor are we trying to trick you. On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness. We are not looking for praise from men, not from you or anyone else. As apostles of Christ we could have been a burden to you, but we were gentle among you,g like a mother caring for her little children.
Pleasing man or God! Galatians 1:10 says, Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. This is not something we think about every day is it? But perhaps we should. When we were children pleasing our parents just came automatically. Of course we didn’t want to get into trouble, but even more so we wanted their approval, favor, acceptance and love. It was what made us feel special and valued. Is there anything wrong with that?
Of course not, but let’s go a little deeper. Does your value and worth come from having the approval of others or God? Even though it is not wrong to want the acceptance and love of others and it does feel good when we receive it, it is not something we should hang onto for very long. Why?
Because it is not the approval and acceptance of others that really counts! It is God’s approval and worth that really counts. John 6:27 says, Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.
The question really is….who do I want to please, God or man! This is an individual choice. A first time choice followed by many other day to day choices. When we first decide to say “YES” to God, it becomes a lifestyle of choices, not just one time. I guarantee you….following the Lord is worth far more than the approval of men.
Psalm 84:3 says, Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young—a place near your alter, O Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
