Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again. Ecclesiastes 11:1
Good Morning everyone, welcome to “Dee’s Thoughts.” Thank you for commenting on this blog and I love hearing from you. Today we are going to look into what does it mean to cast your bread upon the waters? Let’s get started:
This Scripture is giving us a lesson on obedience for the present and also for the future.
There is a sowing which is done by every-one of us, either sowing to our-self or sowing into the Spirit of God: Meaning…According to which sowing is operating at the time will determine what our harvest will be…one of happiness or of misery.
Now we can all understand and agree that to sow into the Spirit is a thing which requires great patience and endurance on our part. It is definitely not for those who are looking for a ‘quick fix’! If we are, we will be disappointed. It is only "after many days"—"in due season," as St. Paul expresses the same thought- that we shall reap if we faint not.
Part of this sowing to the Spirit consists in our conduct and attitude towards God, the other in our conduct towards one another.
"Cast thy bread upon the waters." First refers to seed,, for this is what is meant by "bread." "The seed is the word of God." Second reference is to the sowing: "Cast" the seed. Planting and sowing go together and as in all sowing, weeds get in the way and need to be pulled out if we are to have a clean crop when the harvest comes.
But here is God’s promise… for after many days you will find it again ; you may be inclined to think it is lost after many days but it will be found again. Do not get discouraged if it delays, for as in all things it must first die before it can live again. It must pass through the process of life and death, weeding and pruning to be transformed into what God has intended it to be. This action does not come over night but in due season.
