Sorrow Turns To Joy
I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. John 16:26
Good Morning Everyone
Thank you for joining me this morning, welcome to Dee's thoughts...I so love your comments keep them coming. This morning as I was reading I was reminded again of the sorrow and pain we all experience in this life and the wonderful promises of God in Scripture that encourage us that one day our sorrow will turn into Joy. Let’s set the stage---
Jesus is having a ( sit down talk) paraphrased with His disciples telling them that “He is going to the Father in a little while.” But the disciples are confused with his comment and they keep asking Him—“What does he mean by a little while?” Jesus sees that they have questions so He begins to explain.
As He explains he uses the example of a woman in childbirth who experiences pain at the time but that pain is soon replaced with joy of the new child (verse 21). Then verse 22, Jesus says—“So with you. Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”
For us today as it was then, we also have times of grief and sorrow and wonder, will it will ever pass and will I feel joy again? Jesus was of course speaking of Heaven where all pain and sorrow will be non- exist.
But I want to exhort us all today and say that we don’t have to wait until Heaven to find joy in the midst of our pain and sorrow. We grieve for the loss of loved ones and other things but I know that Jesus is also healing us now (present time) of our grief and sorrow. Ultimately in Heaven we will experience unending peace and joy, but we are also being healed today, now, of heartache and loss. If not for a loving Father in Heaven we would not be able to bear all that the world throws at us.
Let us be reminded, we do not suffer alone and our suffering is not in vain, it is not for nothing! It has a purpose with God. We know of a day when all pain and suffering ends, but we don’t have to wait until then to call on the Name of Jesus and ask Him to heal us. The promises of God are for now and for the future. Verse 23 says, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my Name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”
