Good Morning Everyone, welcome to ‘Dee’s Thoughts’. How many of us do you think would say we view ‘ourselves’ as cheerful givers? You know being a (cheerful giver) is not a man idea, but rather, a God idea. 2 Corinthians 9:7-8 says this—“You must each decide in your heat how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure, For God loves a person who gives cheerfully. “
So, it is one thing to give, yet another to give cheerfully and not in response to pressure or being reluctant in our giving. Why is it important to give with a cheerful attitude? Well, one reason God loves a cheerful giver is because we are becoming more like Him, the universe’s most generous and cheerful Giver.
Giving is often likened to sowing seed; a “universal principle” easily seen by every culture. Here, these principles are shown as : 1. A seed needs to be scattered to gain increase, money must be invested as well, and similarly, one will reap more than is sown.
2. When fear or stinginess prompts holding back more than appropriate, the harvest is less rather than more being gained.
3. liberality of spirit is the source of spiritual “fatness.” That is, of spiritual or material prosperity. And 4. Consistent giving is equivalent to “watering” seed one has already sown. It will produce a reciprocal dynamic that continues yielding harvest as long as a person continues sowing.
Some key words I see here are these; seed needs to be scattered to gain increase. If we hold back out of fear or stinginess our harvest will be less rather than more. Being consistent in giving is equivalent to watering what has already been sown, and will continue to yield a harvest as long as we continue sowing.
I don’t know about you—but I want to increase in my giving regardless of what that will look like. Giving also includes me giving of my time and my relationship with others. In these days ahead, especially in this New Year of 2018, we are hearing words such as being intentional and focused in a new way in pressing ahead without compromise. I for one and I hope you will to, be more focused and determined to press into this year for what the Lord has in store for you and me. P. S. for me personally I am seeing in a new way I cannot out give God.
The Best is yet to come, Blessings, Dee
