If He Speaks Will I Listen?

Good morning everyone and welcome to “Dee’s Thoughts”.

Then they said to Moses, Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die. Exodus 20:19

There are many voices we hear every day and especially now in the world we live in, we are pulled and tugged to hear a multitude of voices. How do we know when it is God’s voice speaking to us? Many times we want to hear from God, but at the same time fearful that if we do He may want me to do something I don’t want to do or hear something I don’t want to hear. See, many times we want God to do something for us, but hesitate if He wants something from us.

If only God would speak to me! What would you do if He did speak?  Would you listen and do what He would ask of you? Let us take a look at a Scripture in Exodus Chapter 20. The Lord has spoken to Moses and has given him instructions for the people. Then He (God) gives to Moses the Ten Commandments to take to the people.

All the people heard thunder and saw flashes of lightening, the sound of trumpet and saw the mountain smoking, but when they saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance. Verse 18 .. Then they said to Moses, speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die.

Why was the people afraid to hear from God directly and want Moses to speak to them instead of God? Because when we acknowledge we have heard God speak to us, (an action is required on our part to respond).  When man speaks there is always a chance for error so we can more readily dismiss what is said   and question its validity. In other words, if we can say man has said this or that, and not God, we can justify whether we have to respond to it or not.

The truth is, God gives us all every opportunity to know when it is Him, it is what we do with those opportunities that is the key. Do we just dismiss all the signs and that still  small voice within us that longs to speak to us. Do not be afraid to listen and obey His voice, because God has only our good in mind . Ask Him to speak, then listen, He will speak…..

Just know that God loves you and only wants the best for you and me. Man disappoints us and wounds us at times, but God is always faithful and loving, He never disappoints us, His plan for us is always for our good.

Have a great Day, Dee
