Why do people hurt people?

Have I told you today that I love you? This is not difficult to do but most of us are either to busy or just take it for granted that love is unspoken and you should already know it. It just takes a couple of minutes to say something uplifting to another person and in return we become more blessed than those we are wanting to bless with our words or actions. Here are some words for thought:.

I often reflect on the amazing power of words. Used correctly, they lift us up and make us soar to unbelievable heights but when words are used against us, and used in anger to hurt, they have incredible power to harm and to destroy. Quote: Shireen Bonegio

Words can be just as damaging to the human spirit as physical abuse is to the body. There is nothing more damaging than the misuse of words that are directed toward another human being. Strong words obviously hurt us when they are directed at us in anger and remorse. But the unspoken word can be just as hurtful and in many ways more damaging than a hurtful one.

Why? because the unspoken word targets the very core of our true identity (who we really are). That place within us that speaks to us about our worth and value. The unspoken word leaves us wondering and trying to figure out why others don’t love us or why they don’t want to be with us.

Harsh words cause us to want to retaliate with the one who is being cruel, where the unspoken word is held inside and destroys from the inside out! Harsh painful words can linger within a person’s heart, soul and mind for a long time and never be resolved unless talked about and dealt with. It is true that when we are in pain we hurt others around. It is unavoidable! Hurting people hurt people. So what is the answer? Forgive quickly and love always.

Over thinking what Jesus tells us to do!

I don't know about the rest of you but I can get caught up in 'over thinking' what I believe the Lord is telling me. When I first hear (what I believe is his voice) immediately I get excited and I am at full attention waiting to hear something else. My first instinct is to 'put into action' what I am hearing. can you identify?

But the minute I hear 'then I want to do' so I jump right into wanting to follow what I am hearing from the Lord. What I have discovered in my own life is that it is easy at first to take action but when I don't see the results of my obedience as soon as I think I should then what I thought I heard from the Lord becomes a ? The word of God calls this Doubt!

Getting our eyes off of Jesus at times like this is the same thing Peter experienced when Jesus was walking on the water and told Peter to come to him. Peter's immediate action was to get out of the boat. His eyes were not on the high waves all around but on Jesus. Once he recognized the immediate danger that was around him he got scared and began to sink.

We can start out strong and many of us do but the real test comes when the answers we are looking for don't come as quickly as we think they should. I want to encourage all of you to stand firm and strong and don't let the waves of life build doubt in your hearts. We need to stand firm in what the Lord has told each one of us to do and wait for His completion of it.

These are days of much turmoil and unrest and for the Christian the heat is turned up a notch. There are many voices out there that pull us in many directions but we can trust in the voice of the Lord and know in our hearts that we hear His voice clearly. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. when he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. John 10:3-4

Let us all keep up the good fight encouraging each other not to give up in the darkness what we see in the light. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. John 1:5 Our God is faithful and supplies every need and He will complete what He began in us. To Him be Honor and Glory forever
